The Mendon Selectboard learned that an appointed public official received a serious threat directed towards the employees and officials in Mendon. The threat is currently under investigation.
The safety of the employees and town officials is a priority and will not be compromised. The Selectboard has taken immediate steps to ensure the safety of our municipal government while continuing to serve the public in accordance with Vermont statutes. Essential municipal operations continue remotely and under the supervision of the Rutland County Sheriff. The public can reach town staff via telephone and email during normal Town Office business hours of Monday-Thursday 9 AM-4 PM. All Board and Commission meetings will be held remotely. The agenda and links to the meetings can be found on www.mendonvt.gov.
The Selectboard requests understanding and patience during this difficult time. We wish to demonstrate unwavering support to our dedicated staff and our public officials, most of whom are volunteers serving their community.
Mendon continues to be an amazing and safe community to live, work and visit. The municipality is committed to being open and welcoming to all.
The Planning Commission meeting scheduled for 12/4/23 at 5:15 PM at the Town Office has been cancelled.
The Selectboard Meeting scheduled for November 27, 2023 at 5:30 PM has been cancelled.
The Mendon Town Office will be closed Tuesday, November 14 at 12:00 pm through Thursday, November 16 so that the Town Office staff can attend training sessions.
The Barstow Unified Union School District has the following seats up for election in March 2024.
BUUSD:
- Chittenden
- At-Large – 2 years remaining of a 3-year term (Candidates can be from either BUUSD town.)
- At-Large (Candidates can be from either BUUSD town.)
*All seats are three-year terms unless otherwise noted.
Completed petitions, along with a signed Consent of Candidate Form, are due to Town Clerks by Monday, January 29, 2024. Petitions for town-specific seats require signatures of the lesser of 1% of registered voters or 30 signatures. Petitions for at-large seats require the signature of 60 registered voters.
The Mendon Town Office will be opening late at 11:00am on October 25. Thank you for understanding.
The report is due to the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) each year by October 30, 2023. The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) staff have written the DRAFT 2023 Consolidated Annual Performance and Evaluation Report for Vermont’s Recovery Housing Program (CAPER-RHP). The report is in the format required by HUD. The report includes activity from October 1, 2022 – September 30, 2023.

The Mendon Selectboard Meeting for 10/9/23 has been rescheduled for 10/16/23 at 5:30 PM to observe the Indigenous People’s Day Holiday.
